The Reverend Edward Heinrich Gustov Fresen was born July 21, 1910 to Edward August Fresen and Wilhelmina Elsbeth Plassmann. He had one sister; Ruth Helen. The first 18 years of his life were spent in Edwardsville, Illinois. He attended Elmhurst College and Eden Seminary, St. Louis. In June 1936 he was ordained to the clergy. For the next 53 years he served in a number of parishes in the midwest. The Fresen Collection contain personal letters, news clippings, certificates, notices of "calls" to particular parishes and miscellaneous memorabilia. It also contains memos, tapes, and slides by Fresen of Edwardsville, Illinois. Tapes and memoirs relate to Fresen and Plassmann families, descriptions of St. Louis street area of Edwardsville in 1920s, reminiscences and descriptions of life during World War I to the 1940s in the Edwardsville, Southern Illinois area. Also contains slides of scenes and buildings in southern and southwestern Illinois.
