Mudge Family
United States--History--Civil War

The Mudge Family Collection contains six scrapbooks of newspaper clippings about the Civil War labeled 'Incidents in the War of Abolition' by Susan Hotchkiss Mudge (Mrs. Solomon Mudge).

Solomon and Susan Mudge were from New England but lived in New Orleans in the winter and Madison County, Illinois in the summer. Susan Mudge signed allegiance to the Union so that she could keep her farm in Madison County but her sympathies were with the South. Solomon Mudge died in 1860.

The collection also contains the personal and professional papers of Dick H. Mudge, Junior State's Attorney, and John G. Mudge, Assistant State's Attourny in the mid-20th century.
