The Eugene B. Redmond Collection documents the life and career of Dr. Eugene Redmond as a distinguished poet, prominent member of the Black Arts Movement, educator, publisher, speaker, and Poet Laureate of East St. Louis. The core of the collection contains his correspondence, writings, professional papers, and clippings directly related to him. The collection also contains papers related to his relationships with prominent members of the Black Arts Movement and the writings and organizational ephemera collected by Redmond as an advocate for education and black arts in America. These materials consist of miscellaneous writings by others, organizational newsletters, event programs, press releases and flyers, full issue newspapers, magazines and journals, and clippings from newspapers across the country about art, entertainment, and news and world events.

This collection represents about 45% of the materials originally donated by Dr. Redmond in 2008. Additions or updates to the collection's finding aid will be published when processing is complete.
