The buttons and badges are layered over each other, evidence of a collection that started small and grew over the years with Jean's career. In her photo elicitation interview, Jean notes that she kept this cloth, which she refers to as a scarf, draped on one side of her home piano, adding to it until she had no more room. In the photo, additional white material was used to lay out the festival badges and attached lanyards which would not fit.
