Description

Published and copyrighted by Jean Kittrell in 1971, this 13 page book covers the history of jazz and related forms using a historical context. The cover art for the book (not pictured) was designed by Jane P. Luckenbach, wife of musician Tony Luckenbach, and features black musicians in a circle motif with musical instruments at the center. A pair of hands are featured on the bottom of the circle. The content of the book includes a timeline of Afro-American folk music related to development of European musical forms and historic events, comments and definitions of jazz terminology with associated diagrams, and a bibliography of related literature including books and periodicals. The inside cover of this copy is signed "To Gail & Steve with best wishes, Jean Kittrell 23 Nov 71."
