Icarian Movement -- History

Description

The Cabet Collection includes materials related to Etienne Cabet, the French philosopher, utopian socialist, and founder of the Icarian movement and utopian communities in Texas, Missouri, and Illinois. This collection was purchased by Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 1969 from Henry Stevens, Son & Stiles of London and is likely the most complete source for the history of the Icarian movement. The collection consists of 43 books and pamphlets by and about the Icarian founder and his colony, 11 folders of letters and other documents written by Cabet and other members of the Nauvoo colony.

The Cabet manuscripts have been microfilmed and copyflow copies made. These copies may be used in the library.
