Title

Jean Kittrell's Music Briefcase, Undated

Description

Jean Kittrell used this black Samsonite briefcase to carry her music in for performances, covering the outside with stickers from some of the places she traveled and festivals where she performed. The most prominent of these is the large St. Louis Jazz Club sticker which reads, "LIVE MUSIC," on one of the large flat sides of the briefcase. Additional stickers include those from her trips to Europe performing in Scotland at the Edinburgh International Jazz Festival (1989), in Germany at the Jazzival Gladbeck (1987 and 1989), and in the Netherlands at Apeldoorn's Jazz in the Woods (1987) and the Oude Stijl Jazz Festival in Breda (1985). Stickers from Peoria, Illinois, the Central Ohio Hot Jazz Society, Sacremento Traditional Jazz Society, Sacremento Dixieland Jubilee (1989), Delta Queen steamboat, and San Juan Island Dixieland Jazz Festival also cover the exterior of the briefcase. A tag with Jean's Edwardsville address is attached to the black plastic handle, and the inside is lined with brown cardboard decorated with a black geometric pattern. The edges and latches are made with aluminum or other silver metal alloy.
