Judy Onofrio, a well-known sculptor, visited Southern Illinois University Edwardsville on November 19, 1986. She constructed a sculpture in Southeast Parking Lot (9) starting at 7:30 pm in front of a live audience. Upon completing the sculpture, Onofrio doused the structure with a flammable liquid and lit it on fire, and the audience watched as the sculpture burned against the night sky.
